GREATER FLAMINGO
Phoenicopterus ruber
Perhaps the most well-known bird
of Bonaire is the Greater Flamingo, thousands of which may often
be seen on the island. Largest numbers occur in the Pekelmeer
at the flat, southern end of the island but also at Lac Bay,
Lake Goto, and scattered other locations. Flocks can sometimes
be seen flying out over the sea towards the Venezuelan coast
to feed.
